Biography

Bushuyev first made the Soviet national weightlifting team in 1955, and became the top lightweight lifter between 1957 and 1960. In that period, he won three World Championships, two European Championships, and the Olympic gold in Rome. In addition, he set five new World Records in this period. He quit lifting after his Olympic title, and became the coach of the “heavy athletics” section of Torpedo Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod).
